The Christmas season kicked off in style on November 30, 2024, at the Komatipoort Catholic Church. The outdoor annual dinner-dance, a highlight of the year, drew 390 guests from far and wide, from Komatipoort, Gauteng, Welkom, Malelane, Nelspruit, Dullstroom, Heidelberg, Phalaborwa, Hoedspruit and even a guest all the way from the beautiful island of Madeira.
Guests seated outside the church grounds were surrounded by twinkling lights, creating a magical ambiance. Despite the heat, the festive atmosphere prevailed.
The evening’s menu was a true reflection of the Portuguese culture with a selection of traditional dishes. On the menu was a choice of delicious prawns, espetada or braai’d Portuguese chicken, with the accompaniment featuring a tasty array of home-made couscous, rice, roasted baby potatoes roasted veggies, salads, bolo do caco and milho frito.
For dessert, guests indulged in ice cream, pudim de Veludo, Colchão de Noiva, pudim de Leite Crème, and a selection of home-made cakes. DJ Carlos kept the energy high, entertaining guests of all ages with great music and keeping the dance floor filled until past midnight.
A raffle and an auction added to the excitement, with guests enthusiastically participating in the hope of taking home one of the fantastic prizes.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of organizers Joe and Zelia dos Santos, together with their dedicated crew, who ensure that this annual fundraising event remains a success year in and year out. The organizers would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who supported this year’s event, including the guests, sponsors and volunteers.
