In a heartfelt celebration of Portuguese culture and family entrepreneurship, MF Autobody recently hosted a special luncheon for a distinguished Portuguese delegation. Organised by Manuel Figueiredo, founder of MF Autobody, and his sons, Armando and João Figueiredo, the event was a proud showcase of the family’s business legacy and deep community ties.
The lunch honoured the outgoing Ambassador of Portugal to South Africa, Dr. Costa Pereira, and welcomed the new Consul-General of Portugal in Johannesburg, Afonso Laginha, along with the new Social Attaché of the Portuguese Embassy in Pretoria. Also in attendance was Comendador Silvério Silva, a lifelong friend and compatriot of Manuel Figueiredo, adding a touch of nostalgia and camaraderie to the occasion.

Held at MF Autobody’s headquarters in Boksburg, the gathering was more than just a celebration of one business; it was an introduction to the broader Figueiredo family enterprise. Guests toured the premises, visiting the Fig Tree Bakery and Restaurant, renowned for its authentic Portuguese flavours, and Izimoto, the family’s cutting-edge car customisation firm. Together, these businesses reflect a seamless blend of tradition, craftsmanship, and innovation.
“This was a proud day for our family,” said Manuel Figueiredo. “Each of our businesses tells a story of who we are and the values we hold — from the precision and quality of MF Autobody to the rich traditions of Portuguese cuisine at the Fig Leaf Bakery and the creativity we express through Izimoto.”
The Fig Leaf Bakery and Restaurant offered guests a taste of Portugal, with traditional pastries and meals that brought home a little closer. Izimoto, meanwhile, highlighted the family’s forward-thinking approach, showcasing stunning custom cars that combine artistry with engineering.

Dr. Costa Pereira expressed his admiration for the Figueiredo family’s accomplishments. “These businesses are a testament to the strength, resilience, and creativity of the Portuguese community in South Africa,” he said. “They not only preserve our heritage but also contribute meaningfully to the local economy.”
The event, complete with a Portuguese-inspired menu and lively conversation, ended with a toast to the enduring bond between the Portuguese community and South Africa. The Figueiredo family expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to share their journey and celebrate their heritage with such esteemed guests.
As the sun set on a day filled with pride and laughter, one thing was clear: the Figueiredo family’s legacy goes beyond business. It is a story of culture, community, and the unshakable spirit of family.
