Não Há Gente Como a Gente Ends Year with Fundraising Lunch and Fun-Filled Activities

In December 2024, the charitable organisation Não Há Gente Como a Gente hosted its final fundraising lunch of the year at the Casa da Madeira in Alberton, bringing together over 100 attendees for a day of camaraderie, generosity, and celebration.

The event featured a delectable Portuguese-inspired feast catered by Johnny Vieira, affectionately known as “Good Looking,” from the renowned Casa do Compadre restaurant. Guests enjoyed a buffet of rich flavours and hearty meals that epitomised Portuguese culinary traditions, all while contributing to a worthy cause.

At its core, Não Há Gente Como a Gente is a group driven by a commitment to assist underserved communities. Funds raised at the event support charities such as Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity and provide essential aid to squatter camps often overlooked by governmental support systems. The organisation’s motto, “Do good without looking at whom,” encapsulates their inclusive and compassionate mission. Monthly, the group extends help to over 300 families, providing basic necessities to those most in need.

The fundraiser concluded on a lively note with a spirited game of Bisca, a beloved Portuguese card game. In a humorous twist, the coveted Bitcoin Bisca Trophy was handed out to the game’s winner, marking a light-hearted highlight of the day. Additionally, a raffle event helped raise substantial funds—amounting to many dozens of thousands of rands—to further support the organisation’s philanthropic projects.

This luncheon not only capped off a year of impactful charitable work but also underscored the strong sense of community within the Portuguese diaspora in South Africa. As one of the most attended events hosted by Não Há Gente Como a Gente, it demonstrated the collective spirit of giving and unity that fuels their mission.

As the year closes, the organisation remains committed to expanding its reach and making a difference in the lives of those who need it most. With events like these, Não Há Gente Como a Gente continues to be a shining example of generosity and community engagement.
