The celebrations began with Holy Mass in the evening and a candle procession in honour of Our Lady of Fatima at St. Dominic’s Church in Welkom. They have been honouring Our Lady of Fatima at the church here for 50 years, making this a rather special milestone. This occurred on Saturday, and on Sunday, a bus was arranged to transport people from Joburg to Welkom. Upon arrival, there was the Sunday Celebration of Holy Mass and another procession, this time in the morning, followed by the Festa. The Sunday Mass also had the added joy of Rui Celestino and some others forming the Choir for the day, adding a touch of professionalism to the singing.
The Festa featured Dancers from the Portuguese Dance Society and the Rancho from the Casa Dos Poveiros. Live entertainment was provided by Fatima Nery, who accompanied us on the bus. Delicious food and a variety of items to purchase were available, and the event received impressive support. It was a lively and enjoyable day, filled with the kind of good, family fun that makes this Festa so amazing. Those who attended had an absolute blast. The energetic ones joined in with the dancers, while others found respite in the shade, away from the sun, and enjoyed their time with family and friends.
Those of us who came on the bus were well taken care of by the Church. We were provided with food and drinks for the day, and after all the enjoyment, we returned home on the bus, tired but happy.
